Cloud Keeper: Shrine of Dal — Deep Strategy Guide

Overview

Cloud Keeper: Shrine of Dal is a roguelite bullet heaven survivors-like inspired by Korean folklore. Developed by Jetpackgone, it launches into Early Access on July 31, 2026.

Instead of the typical survivors formula where you just dodge enemy waves, Cloud Keeper adds a unique twist — you summon and fuse cloud companions. Build an army of clouds, each with elemental affinities and special abilities, and watch them swarm enemies while you befriend shrine visitors and unravel the mystery of the moon goddess.

The game draws from Korean folk tales — expect dokkaebi (goblins), mountain spirits, and mythical creatures rendered in a colorful, stylized art style.

Core Mechanics

The Cloud System

Your main power source. Clouds are companions that fight for you. You start with one basic cloud and expand your army through recruitment and fusion.

Cloud types (elemental affinities):

  • Wind clouds — Fast attack speed, low damage, chain damage between enemies
  • Rain clouds — AoE damage over time, slow enemies, heal you passively
  • Thunder clouds — Slow attack speed, massive burst damage, stun chance
  • Snow clouds — AoE slow field, moderate damage, freeze on critical hit
  • Sun clouds — Single-target focus fire, burn damage over time, team buffs
  • Moon clouds — Rare type. Balanced stats, unique abilities, high fusion requirements

Each cloud has:

  • Level (1-10) — increases base damage and HP
  • Affinity — determines elemental type and fusion compatibility
  • Rarity — Common, Uncommon, Rare, Legendary
  • Ability — each type has one active ability (manual trigger or auto-cast)

Cloud Fusion

The fusion system is the core progression mechanic. Combine two clouds of the same rarity to create a higher-rarity cloud. The resulting cloud inherits traits from both parents.

Fusion rules:

  • Same affinity + same rarity = guaranteed upgrade to next rarity
  • Different affinities + same rarity = random affinity, chance for higher rarity
  • Fusion with a Moon cloud = guaranteed rare result
  • Max rarity clouds can be fused for stat boosts (not rarity increase)

Fusing two Rain clouds gives a Rare Rain cloud with enhanced rain abilities. Fusing Rain + Wind might give a storm-type cloud with mixed effects.

Shrine Visitors

Between waves, shrine visitors appear. These are characters from Korean folklore who offer boons, quests, or trades:

VisitorRoleWhat They Offer
Dokkaebi (Goblin)TricksterRandom trade — risk/reward exchange
Sansin (Mountain Spirit)GuardianPermanent stat upgrade in exchange for clouds
Seonnyeo (Celestial Maiden)HealerFull heal + revive one lost cloud
Gwishin (Ghost)CursedPowerful temporary buff with a drawback
Dalnim (Moon Rabbit)RareMoon cloud fragment (collect 5 for guaranteed Moon cloud)

Each run, visitors appear at fixed intervals (after waves 3, 6, 10, 15, 20). You can accept or decline their offers. Some visitors have relationship meters that carry between runs — befriend them enough and they unlock permanent upgrades.

Runs and Progression

Run Structure

Each run follows the survivors-like formula:

  1. Starting area — Choose starting clouds and items
  2. Waves 1-10 — Standard enemy waves with increasing difficulty
  3. Mid-boss — A named enemy with special mechanics
  4. Waves 11-20 — Harder waves with new enemy types
  5. Shrine Guardian — End-of-run boss fight
  6. Moon Temple (unlockable) — Extended run with higher difficulty and rewards

Enemies drop XP orbs (auto-collected), cloud fragments, and shrine tokens.

Permanent Progression

Between runs, you keep:

  • Cloud collection — All discovered cloud types remain available
  • Upgrade tree — Spend shrine tokens on permanent stat upgrades
  • Visitor relationships — Befriended visitors offer better deals
  • Moon fragments — Collect 30 to unlock the Moon Temple zone

Difficulty Scaling

The game has a heat/ascension system called "Moon Phases." Each completed run increases the moon phase, adding modifiers:

  • Phase 1: +20% enemy HP and damage
  • Phase 2: One random cloud type unavailable for the run
  • Phase 3: Oxygen timer (survive with limited visibility)
  • Phase 4+: Stacking modifiers

Beginner's Guide

Getting Started

First Run

Your first run starts with a single Wind cloud and 2 basic items. The first 5 waves are easy — use them to learn movement and cloud positioning.

Priority unlocks:

  1. Collect all 6 basic cloud types (one per run, roughly)
  2. Spend shrine tokens on the oxygen capacity upgrade first
  3. Complete wave 20 at least once to unlock the fusion tutorial

Cloud Team Building

Early game, aim for:

  • 2 Wind clouds (fast swarm damage)
  • 1 Rain cloud (passive healing)
  • 1 Thunder cloud (burst for elites)

This gives you wave clear, sustain, and burst. Replace common clouds with rare versions as you progress.

Tips and Tricks

Shrine Visitor Tips

  • Always accept Dokkaebi trades early on. The risk is low, the reward is high.
  • Save clouds for Sansin — sacrificing a max-level common cloud for a permanent HP upgrade is worth it.
  • Moon Rabbit visits are rare. Always accept. Moon clouds are the most powerful.

Common Beginner Mistakes

  • Ignoring cloud diversity. Having 4 of the same type makes you vulnerable to enemy resistances.
  • Saving fusion materials. Use common fusions liberally. The best time to fuse is immediately.
  • Skipping shrine visitors. Every visitor offers something useful, even cursed Gwishin.
  • Running from Elites. Elite enemies drop guaranteed cloud fragments. Kill them when safe.
  • Over-investing in one cloud type. The meta shifts with enemy compositions. Keep 2-3 types leveled.

Advanced Strategies

Synergy Builds

BuildCore CloudsPlaystyle
Storm Lord3 Wind + 2 ThunderMax speed and burst. Kite enemies while clouds delete them.
Deluge3 Rain + 2 SnowSlow enemies to a crawl. Passive healing keeps you alive.
Solar Flare3 Sun + 1 Wind + 1 MoonFocus fire on elites and bosses. Single-target deletion.
Arctic Freeze4 Snow + 1 MoonPermafrost everything. Enemies die before reaching you.
Rainbow1 of each typeJack of all trades. Best for learning enemy patterns.

Fusion Chain Strategy

Optimal fusion progression:

  1. Early (waves 1-5): Collect 4 common clouds → fuse into 2 uncommon
  2. Mid (waves 6-15): Fuse 2 uncommon into 1 rare. Repeat for 2 rare clouds.
  3. Late (waves 15-20): Fuse 2 rare into 1 legendary. Fill remaining slots with rares.
  4. Endgame: Legendary + Moon cloud fusion for max power.
